some serious topic today

“grasp the time to develop PuDong New Area firmly, till it is established.”
This is the meaning of that sentence we see in the photo. It was said by Deng Xiaoping, a very famous and special Chinese former leader, in 1992. Before, PuDong area only could be seen the large pieces of farmlands. Deng came to pudong and he delivered this famous sentence … This area is changed and still changing since then..(These characters are Just facing the Jinmao Tower.)
The building on the background is the new skyscraper which is being built—Shanghai World Financial Center which will be 492M high and have 101 stories, it will be the highest building in China when it is built in 2008.
Who knows what kind of day we will have tomorrow??

They say that PuDong financial area will eventually be bigger than the one in Hong Kong. Personally, I mistrust tall buildings (even before 9/11), but the photo is very impressive and thanks for your language lessons!.
btw Jing, please come back to my site and click on the picture to enlarge it, you will see everything up close. And the moon? No, it is another bird
thanks for your words jing…

This photo and your post show the power of words, Jing.
Jing, it might interest you to know that every morning this week on the popular National Public Radio “morning edition” program, they have been featuring all the rapid changes in Shanghai. They didn’t bring out yet the saying of Deng Xiaoping (that I heard, at least). They spoke about the regret of how quickly the old buildings and charming scenes that one associates with Shanghai are vanishing. One film maker has been documenting the changes of this extraordinary growth and the public outlook upon it. It is very, very interesting, and I have thought of you each morning while listening to this short segment of the program. So, it’s amazing that you would feature a photo of it, as well.
