where are we now?? so many bamboos, the scaffolds!! The downtown view?? Unbelievable!!
Background:
In the downtown of the city, there are lots of old buildings which were built around 1920s. Recently, the municipal government is launching a project to repair all the old houses in the city. So it’s easy to see this view when you are walking on the prosperous downtown streets. I took this photo on the Middle Huai2 Hai3 Road(淮海中路). Here available the big photo.
Have a wonderful week ahead~~~

Wow. Scaffolding made of bamboo! Incredible.
I think it’s an absolutely beautiful picture. I love the geometric designs of the bamboo sticks.
Very unusual for me!
I would love to see some of the old style Chinese homes!
Beautiful photograph with amazing content. Bamboo scaffolding! I’ve seen it before only in the movies!
Thanks Jing!!!
I love the lines and patterns… and that it is bamboo makes it all the more charming. And I love that you caught the woman in center front looking up and seeming to contemplate the scene in front of her.
… unbelivable that the estructures are in bambu… isnt that dangerous for the workers???…
waouhh. impressionnant, on se croirait dans une jungle. bravo et bon dimanche
waouhh. impressing, one would believe oneself in a jungle. cheer and good Sunday
looks rather scary. i dont know if i dare to walk under there..
I am always amazed when I see bamboo scaffolding. Great photo.
Jing, I would be afraid to work on bamboo scaffolding. How much weight will it hold?
Absolutely amazing Jing. Its hard to believe people would be safe to work up there. Would love to see more shots of this project.
I did some googling after seeing this photo and found out that: “Bamboo has greater tensile strength than steel; it’s a sustainable, environmentally friendly material (it grows fast enough to be harvested within three to five years without depleting natural resources, and it regenerates quickly); and it can cost less and last longer than red oak.”
Thought provoking photo, Jing - thanks!
when we were in China two years ago, so many things amazed us. Bamboo scaffolds was one thing in particular!
Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that before! I knew bamboo was strong but didn’t know it could hold that much weight! What is the scaffold for?
You’re right — unbelievable.
i would want to climb up there!!!
The first time I’ve seen bamboo scaffolds, it was in Hong Kong, a big surprise! In France, they are all in metal. Very impressive shot!
Bamboos and pandas, they belongs together, and now bamboos and scaffolds
Thank you for new knowledge and fine photo!
its really unique to see this stuff from bamboo. Here its from iron most of the time. Very amazing photo…:)
Very unique - unbelievable!
Antique buildings are really charming. The love to our past is the love to our present.
Nice shot Jing!!
Cool shot Jing! Can’t believe it’s bamboo scaffolding. Very cool.
Wonderful shot again!
Before reading Isabella’s comment I was imagining it would be strong and lightweight, perfect for scaffolding. It is very picturesque. We have a little bit of bamboo growing in our yard. It is spreading quickly too. My husband is going to take occasional treats to the panda at our zoo when it gets more prolific.
I don’t remember where I saw the Bamboo scaffolding before, but I remember thinking what an ingenious way to make scaffolds. Thnx Jing for bringing this peculiar shot.
this is an amazing photo Jing.
Very impressive!
this is crazy - I cant believe all that bamboo is used in the scaffolding - wow!
