December 16, 2006 - xin ji shi restaurant

Update: Now you could leave comments, yesterday when i wrote this post, i added some Chinese on the title, so it made some mistakes….Now the post recovered.

xin ji shi

 Morning~ / 早呀~ / Bonjour~ / Guten Morgen~
Buenos días~ / Buona mattina~ / おはよう~ / 좋은 아침~
I looked at the dictionary (shhh~~)   ;)

Why a building for Saturday?? It’s a restaurant–Xin1 Ji2 Shi4(新吉士), where you could find the sypical shanghainese foods. Maybe a nice choice for the weekend to go??

Xin1 Ji2 Shi4 is a little bit famous restaurant in the city, and it has several branches around the city. This one locates in Xin1 Tian1 Di4. The building is the typical shanghai style building which I mentioned here–Shi2 Ku1 Men2(石库门). This is the facade(facing east) of the house, you could find out when this house was built. But the guests have to get in from its back door.  I went there before. But the price of the food for the normal people like me, is a little bit expensive.  So I decided to buy some ingredients and cook by myself. ;)  Here you could see the big photo.

Have a nice Saturday whenever you get up~~ :D

December 15, 2006 - X’mas flowers

xmas flowers

Christmas is not the traditional Chinese festival indeed. But, when you breathe, you’ll find the air here is full of “Christmas smell”. ;) No way to avoid!!!

Here is the X’mas flowers, thats what I know only before I checked the more information online which I found it is a kind of poisonous plant, in Chinese, we call it “圣诞红”(sheng4 dan4 hong2)(sheng4 dan4=Christmas, hong2=red). It is very popular here during this season, you could see it everywhere. And dear Ruth (East-Lansing Daily Photo) also posted a very beautiful photo about this plant: poinsettia trees. The one I post is the small version of the poinsettia. Here is the big photo.

How I could forget the date today?? HAPPY Friday, my folks….10 days after…. :)

December 14, 2006 - A saying brought a new world??

some serious topic today

buildings

“grasp the time to develop PuDong New Area firmly, till it is established.”

This is the meaning of that sentence we see in the photo. It was said by Deng Xiaoping, a very famous and special Chinese former leader, in 1992. Before, PuDong area only could be seen the large pieces of farmlands. Deng came to pudong and he delivered this famous sentence … This area is changed and still changing since then..(These characters are Just facing the Jinmao Tower.)

The building on the background is the new skyscraper which is being built—Shanghai World Financial Center which will be 492M high and have 101 stories, it will be the highest building in China when it is built in 2008.

Who knows what kind of day we will have tomorrow??

Here you could see the big photo.

December 13, 2006 - the shopping mall – beautiful decor

beautiful decor

No doubt, the whole world is full of the Christmas season atmosphere, real world or the unreal world. I mean our blogs. ;)   After the time walks into Dec., I already saw lots of beautiful / funny / creative / traditional / ** decorations about Christmas theme. And I just try to catch your guys steps today.

This is the inside view of the Grand Gateway(港汇广场) which is a very big and mainly shopping mall in the west side of the city. Walking into the mall, lots of people can be seen there even on Wed. They decorated the whole building, each floor, each shop, even each counter! I even forgot to take photos when enjoying seeing the beautiful decor. This shopping mall is built and managed by HongKong businessmen. That’s why we call it “gang3 hui4 guang3 chang3″(港汇广场), in literally, gang3=port, but in Chinese, it is the same Chinese character as the character “kong”(港) in the name of 香港(hong kong).(oops, so difficult to explain, ;) hope i said it clearly. If you don’t understand, just ask, i will try to explain more.) And hui4=collection, so,you could find lots of shops. Guang3 chang3=plaza.

Actually here are some very successful business projects which are all managed by Hongkong businessmen, another very famous commercial site(also a very famous tourist site)–Xin2 Tian2 Di4 (新天地) is also built by the Hongkong businesmen. Maybe you know that place already??  When I try to learn more about the city, I fount its very interesting that Shanghai and Hongkong have some kind of similarity: society=>immigrant; culture=>mixed:west+east; people=>floating; location=>seaside … Oh,gosh,I digress again and so far.

Have a nice day though at work!! ;) Here you can see the big photo.

December 12, 2006 - the adorable boy

cute kid

There,
bike, bike!!!
it is different…
so BIG!!
… mmm …
how to climb up?
how ??

This cute boy I saw in the garden. His bright clothes caught my eyes. I looked at him for a while, at last decided to take some photos about the sculptures beside him. Was I lucky? When I pressed the shutter, he ran into the view. This is the result. He even gave us the good posture. ;) Here you could see the big photo.

I remembered lots of photographers here once mentioned about how to take the photos about people we don’t know. It is strange here. At first I was so brave to take the photos when I found the good view of people. And now … I am losing the courage to do that little by little .
Whoops ~~ :?
