I took this photo after my lunch one day. It looked bit funny view as I saw those migrant workers lying on the lawn to take the nap. They reminded me that when I was a child, mom forced me to take a nap after lunch. But it was long time ago. To live & work in the city like Shanghai, I seldom hear people who would take time to have a nap after lunch, the nine-to-five life steps fences people’s life. Though the migrant workers are the part of the city already, but they still keep their life style: get up early, take a nap, and sleep before 10pm. Maybe when they left home to work in the cities, they already knew that they are the “migrant” workers. Nice day ~

I guess they migrate from rural villages?
Sorry I haven’t been commenting much lately – combination of life circumstances. SDP has had a 3rd birthday and you’re invited to the party!

To Sally:
Yes, the migrant workers come from the rural areas for the most part. They are often subsistence farmers who would normally have no or very little monetary income if they did not seek employment in the larger metropolitan cities. They basically do the labor that Shanghainese people do not care to do.
It’s a very tough life. They often forego proper medical care and the workers’ children are not allowed to attend the regular Shanghai schools because they are not permanant Shanghai residents and cannot afford the huge fees the schools charge (public schools aren’t necessarily free in China). The market economy has greatly enhanced the lives of millions of people in the cities, but has left behind many of the rural residents. It’s a big challenge in the 21st century.
Congrats on Sydney D.P.’s third birthday!
