Taken @ Yan dang road, shanghai
How is your Sunday there? Since its getting cold here, not so many people outside. But I need my food anyway. And today I went to eat some soup which tastes very nice for us — ya xue fen si tang (鸭血粉丝汤), in literally, 鸭血(ya xue)= the duck blood curd; 粉丝(fen si)=the bean noodle; 汤(tang)= soup. Inside, there are some duck blood curd, the bean noodles, also some fried tofu with soup. You also could choose to put some duck’s gizzard or the duck’s intestine. I do not like the giblets. So I asked the cook not to put for my dish.
Have you ever heard about this kind of food?
Once we brought our French friends to try, haha… You could image the result, they scared to eat because of the ingredients. But for us, its quite a good choice for the winter as it has very hot soup. Well, Food culture is so amazing ~ when I try to explain the Chinese food to the friends, I realize that its actually the marvellous knowledge. And recently I have the thought to be a chef someday…
And lastly,I wanted to thank my dear friends who visit the blog everyday and leave/not leave the comments for me. Even few words could bring me the greatest encouragement to keep doing more photos, to observe our life in details and enjoy it.
Thank you, thank you very much ~ hugs hugs ~~!!

Yummmy !!!!!!!!!!!! Chef Jing, I hope you open a place to eat so everyone can come. I want to open a T Shirt store like eno in shanghai 2, my dream.
Is…. Yan dang road near Fu Xing park? I see on the map it is near Fu Xing Square, it looks like a abig green area maybe a park??? Anyway directions are going to take time.
…..you must know every street. And you are so brave Jing. The places you take pictures of by yourself , those street ” snap shots” I worry if you are okay sometimes, if you are safe. But then I realize you are a jogger , from reading your flicr profile I know that they can not catch you and I feel better. …….Plus you are a good person and good things happen to good people.
But Food, I can understand that better than directions We have no real chinese food here……I know one Shanghai restaruant in Flushing NY near Main steet I can ask them do they have…ya xue fen si tang. Like those french friends you meet is a bit of a challenge to eat this one, but I have to be brave to keep up with you. Face the challenge and take……a bite, just one at least. If Jing can do, I should be able too.
I like how you explain everything about the soup clearly…it is hard to order food in NY if you don’t speak chinese. The big restaruant is no problem but the smaller shops where the food smells so good and is probably better ….well you just point and hope it is good. Are you laughing yet !!! it’s okay, I won’t know …Jing really it’s okay.
I hope you have a cooking show one day Chef Jing…if one of the camera’s in your apartment, and it has a video mode…make a short video of you cooking for us. Just a I minute show with Chef Jing..Would be fun, maybe when the cold comes and you can’t go out. I will watch each episode. I promise…
The food culture is amazing I agree…many chinese herbs are included in foods. I learned there are different grades of herbs, Medicinal, cooking ect…Here in the states…every drink has some chinese herb in it now. Asian culture has a strong influence on much of our food/drink. Only a surface layer but easy to see in their advertisements.
The details of your life is a joy to see and read… I see those people that leave their footprints here for so long…they know you are very special . I see their names many times reading through your blogs. They are so lucky to be in Shanhai with you…and 2 know from afar.
have a nice week SHDP girl
I can only give you a virtual hug today……….from so far away, hope you can feel it.

The New Heart Beat of Shanghai
I’ve read your blog for about a month and a half I consider myself a micro-blogger. I think every generation will describe Shanghai in their own personal way. From the perspective of how the city is physically changing with buildings coming down and others going up. To the current trends in food, art, music and fashion on the streets of Shanghai. Flagship brands like “Barbie ” to raw street scene snap shots…that tell a different tale of those struggling to hold on to anything in Shanghai .
You can find it all on a simple to read and learn about site called SHDP. The daily weather report , directions to all her very visual travels , important big city events taking place in Shanghai, and at times personal stories from the author. Through her key strokes and artful images you can piece together memories of time spent with her parents on holidays and about Coco her sister. Learn about the rich long standing culture in a country of 1.3 billion people , You can understand the traditions behind holidays and how a chinese calendar is so different from mine , or for the adventuors be introduced to the chinese language. My favorite post are a few unguarded moments when you find yourself having a glimpse of her own private apartment. The command center of SHDP.
What makes it all so magical is that she has no office, no staff, no sponsors and sometimes has worked two jobs . She does it not for profit or fame, … which she could! Her blog could be turned into a book and be a best seller. From reading the footprints of her DP frieds you learn about her extended family of supporters around the world whom love and help spread this blog everywhere. Reading those comments you find she connects to her readers on a very personal level which is hard to do in ” virtual space” you could even say, unimaginable. When she had the chicken Pox and you read those exchanges…..comment after comment, between the lines of texts they express their unified concern, well wishes and admiration for this blogger now in Shanghai.
. SHDP I am learning comes from a place in her heart which she says. “is small”..One quickly discovers that DP is also… selfless, keenly descriptive, visually alive and well written not to metion at times humorous.Even though she has lived there for some time and daily keeps up her blog, for the viewer…it’s like seeing it ….I mean from the she writes…She makes us see Shangahi for the first time!…every time.. She gives birth to something new in a unique way that bloggers may described her and SHDP..as “the new heart beat of Shangahi”!!!!. She is young enough to not give up on her dreams, old enough to know her past and stable in the present to create the future. Following her through the streets you can hear Jing’s rhythm and see her personal style unfolding across the screens of netcitizens everywhere. A good read SHDP
That won’t be on the menu for President Obama’s lunch, but too bad for him because he’ll be missing out on the real Shanghainese food!
I hope he has a nice visit in Shanghai.
Have a good week, Jing!
You know, with those ingredients I’d be a little scared to try it too.
Maybe someday if I’m in China and feeling brave . . .
